Final Essay-

You will compare and contrast any two short stories from the list of short stories assigned to you in the syllabus. For instance: if you choose to compare Guy de Maupassant’s’ “The Necklace” and James Joyce’s “Evelin,” you can consider the following questions: What role does social hierarchy play in the two respective short stories? Should Mathilde and Evelin be criticized for being dissatisfied with their respective lives? Is social mobility possible in the two stories? Does the socio- cultural background of the story affect the characters’ choices? If you choose to compare Eleanor Estes’s “The Hundred Dresses” and Isaac Asimov’s “The Fun They Had,” you may consider the following questions: How is remote learning different from in-person learning? How has the society evolved over the decades? What role do the protagonists play in the respective stories? (You do not have to necessarily choose from the mentioned prompts. If you choose from the mentioned prompts, you do not have to answer all of the questions that are mentioned.)

Requirements:

• The paper should be 4-5 pages in length (double-spaced).
• Mention the titles and the authors of the short stories, in the title of your essay and the introduction of your essay.
• Mention the year of publication of the short stories.
• Discuss the socio- historical context of the short stories briefly.
• It should be MLA formatted.
• It should include a Works Cited Page
• It should include at least four evidences. (Two evidences from each short story.)
• It should have a title, a strong thesis statement, body paragraphs and a conclusion. Body paragraphs should have at least five sentences.
• Avoid summarizing. The focus should be on analyzing.
